Hope

Just a friendly reminder that Spring always follows Winter. Last year my neighbor told me that if you cut forsythia branches in the winter and take them inside, putting them in a vase of water, they will bloom in a couple of weeks. "It gives you hope," she said. I can't wait to see the flowers again!!

Cook Book Review

Food. Such a small word can wreak such havoc in our lives. From food addiction to additives that shouldn't be edible to chemicals and pesticides that make us cringe. Last year I made a real effort to change some eating habits. I still have a way to go, but I went about six months in the year without purchasing any candy. This, my friends, is a miracle. This book, and the author's blog helped me learn a lot about clean eating. Every recipe I tried in this book was fantastic and my family loved them too. I kept re-checking it out from the library until they wouldn't let me anymore and forced me to return it. I will be buying my own copy some day. I read a bunch of the negative reviews (because I was interested why somebody wouldn't love this book) and most were written by Lisa's blog followers who simply thought the book was redundant after reading her blog for so many years. So, if you haven't heard about the blog, and are interested in clean eating that is YUM YUM, check it out!! As far as cookbooks go, t's affordable too!

Winter Sniffles

With winter comes the common cold, the uncommon flu, strep throat, bronchitis, laryngitis, runny noses, coughs and sneezes that make you believe fluids from the mouth really can travel double-digit distances, and general sleepiness because after all, bears get to hibernate, why can't we?

We've had a bit of some of these this winter and here's my youngest taking a nap in my bed with the box of tissues close by. There's nothing like the comfort of a warm, soft bed when the winter bugs catch you.

Next Project

With Escaping Neverland close to the beta reader phase, I sat down and outlined my next project. What is it? Well, you may not want to know. I'm veering away from the fantasy, young adult, fairy tale and sweet romance for this one. This is a book that because of the subject matter, I may even use a pseudonym simply so my young readers don't read it unsuspectingly. Not that it will contain any mature content, (that's just not me if you didn't know by now). It's the subject matter that may turn younger readers off. What is this book about? It's about a woman who works in federal prisons as a counselor. It is her job to determine whether rapists up for parole are actually ready to life crime-free lives.

Told you it was heavy. It'll have some suspense and I think it will be interesting in both style and content. I'll have to do some research about prisons, detectives, parole procedures, etc. But who am I kidding? I don't love research  and write fiction so maybe I'll just go off my own ideas of how things could work. :)

I did an outline recently and plan for about twenty-two chapters so it will be a good length I think. But don't worry, I've got my limits and I'm sure it won't be too long.

Now to think of a pseudonym. How about MR Lemon? It looks a little like Mr. Lemon, doesn't it? As if I'm trying to disguise my gender or something. Or perhaps Melissa Ricord for my maiden name. Or Roxanne Bumblebee just for fun. It looks like this will be harder than I thought.

Those Last Few Words

Man, I'm taking a long time with the ending of this book. But this song is keeping me going. Sing it, Train! I'd like to dedicate this song to one of the main characters in my book. The song even says her name and this video is filmed at a train station which is also significant for her. It's taken me a while to get to know this quirky girl. Can't wait to share her with the world.

Now That's a LOT of Snow

I love snow storms that hide my car so I can't go anywhere, ambush the roads so my husband can't go anywhere, and obliterate school parking lots so my kids can't go anywhere. Then we're all home together having Christmas vacation all over again. Only without the presents. :) Something so tragic happened after this snow storm though. A little girl in our community got hit by a car after sledding down a hill and was killed. Family and friends set up an account to help her parents with expenses. My heart goes out to this family. I can't imagine losing a child.
